Rushville Lions win the New Castle and South Dearborn invitationals!
“This is a special win for this group,” said coach Amy Tush of last Tuesday’s victory. “Another 4-peat win for these seniors in the record books. Most of them had course PR’s too, which make it extra special.”
Hunter Parmerlee placed 3rd followed by five of his teammates dominating the top 10 and a 71-second split between 1-5. Logan Jacobs 4th, Isaac Schelle 6th, Brody Egerton 7th, Hudson Schutz 8th and Kyle Jacobs 9th. “Today was not all about the win,” added Tush. “In cross country, you not only race the competition, you race yourself. To put this year’s race in perspective, our top three boys would have beaten our number 1 runner last season on this course. Very pleased with where we are right now, but expectations are high as the season progresses.” Rushville dominated with a team score of 23 to Cowan’s 62.
Lady Lions were 2nd to the New Castle Trojans with a score of 27-46.
Josie Corn led the way with a 5th-place finish while Kendra Jacobs had the race of the day placing right behind Corn in 6th. “So proud of Kendra today, she came to work, and it paid off,” Tush noted. Melaney Mahan also received a medal by placing in the top 10.
RCHS competed at the South Dearborn Invitational Saturday. The Lions won the 11-team meet for the 3rd time in four years by placing six in the top 25 with a score of 64 points to Simon Kenton (Ky) 77. Leading the Lions in 5th and 6th was the duo of Parmerlee with a course PR (17:46) and L. Jacobs (17:47) with a career best. Also scoring were Egerton 14th (18:37), Schutz 17th (18:52), K. Jacobs 22nd (19:04), all with career bests. Schelle was 24th (19:10) and Dustin King 29th (19:17). Tanner Ash (19:54) was the first JV finisher with a career best.
“Week by week, these boys continue to work together and fight to make this a great season,” said Tush. “From the beginning of the season, we have known our strength is in our numbers and we proved that on Saturday. These boys have been running together for six years and as this season winds down, they continue to come together as a team.”
The Lady Lions were down a couple with sickness but able to pull out 4th place among 12 teams. SW Hanover dominated the competition. Super sophomores Corn 4th (21:43), Mahan 7th (22:19), with a course PR and one second from a career best, and Jacobs 12th (22:54) led the way for the Lady Lions while Jorja Ellis (24:39) and Josie Newhouse (29:41) finished scoring.
SENIOR night is Sept. 25, 4:30, with the varsity combination race along with BRMS and a community elementary race to follow. “Looking forward to showcasing current and future Lions on the same course as we pass the torch of our sport,” said Tush.
