Mae Richardson, 97, of the Everton community, went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, February 9, 2025, at Brookville Healthcare Center. She was born February 26, 1927, in Estill County, Kentucky, the daughter of Buford and Docie Hoover Lancaster.
Her childhood in the beautiful Kentucky mountains ingrained in her the enduring qualities of self-sufficiency, perserverance, and love of God and family.
She and Boyd Richardson of Jackson County, Kentucky were married in Irvine, Kentucky on February 26, 1946 and moved shortly thereafter to Indiana. During their 61 years of marriage they enjoyed family time, travel, bluegrass and gospel music festivals, and working together on many outdoor and indoor projects.
Mae was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A member of the Everton Southern Baptist Church, she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her church family.
From her hilltop home she enjoyed sunsets and sunrises, extensive flower and vegetable gardens, birds and wildlife (except nemesis moles); at age 96 she could still be seen in her yard engaging in her ongoing battle to eradicate those pesky critters.
A skilled homemaker, she was an exceptional seamstress, a creative hand-quilter, and an avid gardener whose flower gardens were admired by friends, family, and passersby. She preserved thousands of jars of fruits and vegetables which she generously shared. The food she prepared was always delicious.
Survivors include daughters, Linda (John) Fitzgerald of Carmel, Donna (Dean) Burch of Crawfordsville, and Elsie Wilcox of Brookville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Boyd Richardson (July 16, 2007); her parents; eight siblings; and her son-in-law, Dick Wilcox.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Pastor Mike Holman will officiate. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery in Milton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookville Healthcare Center Activity Fund, 11049 Indiana 101, Brookville, IN 47012. Online condolences may be made anytime at millermosterrobbins.com.
