William H. Mears

William H. Mears, formerly of Brookville, was born on February 11, 1944 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, a son to William H. and Juanita Kunkel Mears, Sr.  After graduating from Har-Brack High School he served his country in the United States Air Force.  While stationed in South Carolina, Bill met the love of his life, Joan Threlkeld and they were married on March 5, 1966 in Charleston.  The couple soon moved back to Pennsylvania and Bill obtained his engineering degree from Penn State.  He worked at Procter & Gamble and later owned his own engineering firm, Prestige Technical Services.  Bill and Joan owned a farm in West Harrison for 46 years. Bill was a lifelong member of the community and very active; he was president and coach of the Harrison Youth Football League, was instrumental in establishing FC youth football and was a former county council member.  Bill was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.  On Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the age of 80, he passed away at his residence with his family by his side.

Those surviving who will cherish Bill’s memory include his wife, Joan Mears, of Batesville; four sons, William H. III (Andrea) Mears of Brookville, Brian (Ann) Mears of Batesville, Chad (Marisa) Mears of Brookville, and Chase (Chelsea) Mears of Batesville; nine grandchildren, Zach, Logan, Will, Nicole, Audrey, Emma, Lucas, Nora and Jacob Mears; three siblings, Lois (Bill) Arnold, Janet (Brad) King, and Jean Rogers.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ken and Dick Mears.  

Friends visited with the family on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville.  Father Vincent Lampert and Pastor Seth Bartal officiated the service at 12 noon at the funeral home and burial followed in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, Brookville, with military honors provided by the Brookville American Legion, Bernard Hurst Post #77.
