Joy Woodruff, 78, of Liberty, died Thursday afternoon, December 26, 2024.
Joy was born on December 3, 1946, to Catherine and Addison Lowell Jessup near Kennard and was the youngest of 12 children. Joy married Timothy Woodruff on December 29, 1973. She was a proud member of the Spiceland High School band, class of 1965 and had two degrees from Indiana University.
She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play, the Indiana Hoosiers and Cincinnati Reds. Some of her fondest memories were trips watching her Hoosiers in the 1968 Rose Bowl and winning the 1981 NCAA basketball championship, seeing Elvis perform in Las Vegas and the Running of the Bulls in Spain.
Joy is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, Tim Woodruff, her sister Nancy Pennington (Indianapolis) her children: Nathan (Carrie), Jennifer, Eric (Katie), her grandchildren: Kade (Cincinnati) and Quinn (Liberty) Stephens, Brody, Colin and Sean Woodruff (Louisville), Troy Woodruff (Greenwood) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Martha Smalley, Iris Montgomery, Betty Young, Ruth Davisson, Robert Jessup, Dorothy Riggs, John Jessup, Eleanor Painter, Max Jessup and Sara Broadwater.
A Memorial Service will be conducted from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to Disabled American Veterans.
