CONNERSVILLE – A Connersville Middle School student is facing criminal charges following an alleged threat made online.

The juvenile used the social media app Snapchat and claimed violence would occur at the school on Monday, Dec. 6, according to law enforcement.
Those who saw the post became concerned and alerted Fayette County School administrators and local law enforcement. On Sunday, the student and his guardian were interviewed by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department and the juvenile was arrested on Intimidation charges.

“We do not take any threat directed towards our students, staff, or schools lightly and this situation has been turned over to law enforcement and our prosecutor at this time,” said Fayette County School Corporation Superintendent Scott Collins.

The superintendent announced Sunday night that CMS would operate on a normal schedule Monday.

“As we do each day, we have a law enforcement officer onsite at Connersville Middle School and we have asked for additional police presence to help our students, staff, and families feel secure as we return to school on Monday morning,” Collins said in a Facebook post.

The alleged threat was made just days following the deadly school shooting in Michigan.
