The 2022 girls golf campaign got underway last week for the Franklin County Lady Wildcats.

First up was a trip to Liberty Country Club to face the host Union County Lady Patriots and eight other schools in an 18-hole event Aug. 2. FC opened the fall season with a 5th-place finish, scoring 388, just behind Richmond's 376. Batesville, behind senior star Emma Weiler's 68, captured the tourney with a tidy 334. The Patriots were runners-up at 372 and Delta third with 373. East Central was eighth at 427 and Connersville ninth with 454.

A quartet of juniors filled out the scorecard for FC. Crystal Calihan was team low at 85. Nicole Mears carded 86 while Jacy Grimmeissen scored 108 and Lillie Graf 109. Freshman Jaelyn Grimmeissen shot 136.

At Greensburg Country Club Saturday, the Cats set a new season-best at 362 to earn runner-up status to Center Grove's excellent 318. New Palestine was third with a round of 373. Richmond placed fourth with 376. E. Central was 10th (405), Rushville 12th (422) and the host Lady Pirates were unable to post a complete team score.

Calihan paced the squad with a mark of 82, supported by Mears' 86 and Graf's 88. Jacy Grimmeissen rounded out the team scoring with 106 and Jaelyn Grimmeissen added a 132.
FC hosts conference rival Batesville Thursday at the municipal Brook Hill Golf Club before attending the Lapel Invitational Saturday and hosting Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe Rushville at Brook Hill Monday.
