Brookville Town Council discusses several items
July 5, 2022 at 8:05 p.m.
The Brookville Town Council met on June 21 to discuss the latest updates and proposals for the county. After reviewing all minutes from the previous meeting, the council moved forward the first of a few updates.
Regarding the public hearing of 419 High Street, the Old Street Dept., an auctioneer has been lined up. The timeline laid out for pending approval is July 19-21, around early evening. As there were no public comments, the motion was closed and carried.
Schools will begin Aug. 19.
Several proposals were postponed in discussion to a later date. Starting with the new appointee for the Franklin County Economic Development Commission, the board chose to table this decision as Curtis Ward was not present at the time. Next involves the tree removal on Petcor Avenue. Roots from the tree had to be cleaned out after causing problems with the sewer pipe. Despite receiving several quotes for removal and approval from the tree owner, the motion was tabled due to growing concerns of the roots' continued growth should the stump remain intact. The board will discuss new quotes and a full extraction at a later meeting. Also tabled was the inquiry for the fire department and elected officials to receive the 50% membership discount at the golf course, the same as town employees. The membership is roughly $200 cheaper, but the board recognizes that several packages are all-inclusive, and therefore, the price is determined by size. Until more information can be obtained, both motions were approved to be discussed a later date.
The board briefly discussed the 2023 fire contracts for the townships of Brookville, Butler and Highland. Previously, there had been a 5% split between 2021-22. As the initial charge would potentially carry over into the following year to make up for the first charge, the 2.5% increase was approved.
The Schilling Center cleaning contract via Tammy Ward was renewed for another year. The start date is July 1, 2022 and will end June 30, 2023. The hourly rate was set to $30/hour.
The board would also like to recognize Meredith Bundy, who assisted a deaf family when they became unaware of the announced pool break. She used sign language to communicate, and her efforts are respected.
The utilities position previously listed will now be offered to a prospective employee following the end of several interviews. The Zimmer building has a rough date in August for a new roof, and the project is on track as of right now. Lastly, an inquiry for the Park Mural must now involve a catchphrase. "__ in Indiana." The board will discuss this further in a later meeting.
