Grace Lucille Kalter, age 81, of Gratis, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wed. June 29, 2022 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. She was born November 10, 1940 at home in Gratis to David and Elizabeth (Lowman) Kalter. 

Grace was a 1958 graduate of Gratis High School. She attended and graduated from Grace College in 1962. She obtained her master's degree in education from Xavier University in 1978. She attended Grace Brethren Community Church of West Alexandria, Ohio, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years from 1962-2017. 

She served as church treasurer and played the organ.  Grace taught school for 19 years in Kitchel (second grade) and 15 years in Liberty (second grade). Her educational skills made it possible to touch many young lives and be a positive influence to those around her that they will not forget. 

She has lived in Gratis with her only sister, Barbara Jean Kalter, at the home on RT. 122 built by their grandparents in 1911 their entire lives. Her interests were church, gospel music, crocheting, travel (to 39 states), books, hot air balloons, and visiting lighthouses.  

Grace is survived by her sister Barbara Kalter of Gratis; her church family; Bertha (Combs) Grauman, of Farmersville (who was with her in passing). Bertha was a lifelong friend for 70 years. Her husband, Ben Grauman and daughters (considered nieces who called their aunts: Aunt Gracie and Aunt Barbie): Melissa(Grauman) Knuckles of Allegan, Michigan, Rachel(Grauman) Keyser of New Lebanon, Ohio and Rebecca(Garber) Moore of Massillon, Ohio. Also surviving are: Michael and Bonnie Bailey (Grace's roommate) and their family: Michael and Meg Bailey, Pat and Terry Bailey, Mishael Castro, Letitia and Rodney Fugate, Giles and Kathy Bailey and Shawn Bailey, all of Ohio.  Many other friends of the community survive Grace, who are family to them. 

Preceding Grace in death are her parents: David and Elizabeth Kalter.  

Funeral services held on Tuesday, July 5, 2:00 pm. at Gard Funeral Home, 113 Ada Doty Street, Gratis, Ohio. Visitation preceded the service. Pastors Elbert Sorrell, Paul Ayers, and Mark Combs, officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Gratis following the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Brethren Community Church or Gideon International.
