JACKSONVILLE, FL. -- Batesville native Bryan Hoeing is one call away from fulfilling his dream of playing Major League Baseball.
The 2015 BHS graduate is in the Miami Marlins organization and started the season off strong with Double-A Pensacola.
"I loved Pensacola, it was an amazing ballpark right along the water. I had four really solid outings to begin the season and some of the front office people said you deserve this promotion to Triple-A," Hoeing said.
Hoeing is now pitching for the Triple-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and is the 27th ranked prospect in the Marlins organization.
While there are reports he could make his MLB debut this season, Bryan doesn't let that overwhelm him.
"I try to do the best job I can and focus on the task at hand. I go out there focused on that game, that inning, and that pitch because I can only control what I can control," Hoeing said.
The 25-year-old also says he is thankful to his family, friends and coaches who helped him get to where he is today, and says his pursuit of Major League Baseball is a way thank those who invested in him.
"I know I haven't made it to the big leagues yet but when I do, or if I do, it's because of everything that has been put into me, and everyone who has driven me to practice, or watched me pitch, and this is my way to give back to them," he said.
This past offseason, Hoeing also gave back to local youth ballplayers by hosting training sessions in Sunman, along with Zach Britton, of Batesville, who is a prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
Hoeing is the cousin of Greensburg native Alex Meyer, who pitched in parts of three MLB seasons with the Twins and the Angels.
