No. 9 Grill voted favorite locally owned restaurant in The 765
July 26, 2022 at 8:51 p.m.
The No. 9 Grill is located in Cambridge City's historic downtown on Main Street and is family owned and operated by lifelong Cambridge City residents.
Brandon Fortman, co-owner, shared that his father and his father's brother owned the grocery store directly behind No. 9 Grill, and it turns out the building that is now the restaurant's home was once a grocery store. So, when the family was approached about purchasing the building, they saw it as an excellent opportunity to offer something unique to the community. Brandon's cousins John Fortman and Tyler Fortman are also co-owners.
Over the last ten years, the American-style grill has become not only a community staple but also a destination for those in the surrounding area. It is known for its premium cut steaks and seafood. Some other fan favorites are the fried pickles and No 9. Grills' signature drink, Pineapple Upside Down Cake.
The family's love for the community and the people they meet are the driving force, but Fortman shared that what makes the environment so welcoming and memorable is the employees that are more like family.
"It really speaks volumes to the pride our staff puts into food quality," Brandon said. "Having people drive from all over is pretty awesome."
The No. 9 Grill is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant is located on 27 W. Main Street in the heart of Cambridge City's downtown.
Last year the family opened another restaurant in Cambridge City called Lakeview. It offers a similar menu to the No. 9 Grill but also serves breakfast. In addition, there is outside seating facing the water and live music.
