The RCHS track and field teams hosted Shelbyville, Waldron and Southwestern Shelby last Tuesday on senior night. The Lady Lions won the meet, and the boys were 2nd to the Shelbyville Golden Bears.

Jacob Schwendeman dominated the 110 and 300 hurdle races with personal records in both. “He is closing the gap on both RCHS school records with increasing confidence as his ability to dominate the hurdles shines bright for the Lions track and field teams,” says head boys coach Holly Grizzell.

Also winning their respective events were Briggs Tackett in the pole vault and senior Elijah Biggs in the 800.

The Lady Lions had a great night as they captured all 3 relays and were 1st or 2nd in all but two events.

Leading the way in the field was junior Jenna Lawler winning both the shot put and discus, McKenna Norris 1st in the Long Jump and senior Gabby Pavey 1st in the Pole Vault. On the track it was the hurdle tandem of senior Katie Ripberger and Trisha Morgan placing 1-2 and splitting victories in the 100-300 hurdles. Freshman Josie Corn won the 3200 and several placed second in their individual events - Carly Senour was 2nd in 400, senior Mia Norvell 2nd in 800, Leonie Boyer 2nd in High Jump and 200 dash and senior Bell Westphal was 2nd in the pole vault.

RCHS traveled to Warren Central Friday to compete at the Dennis McNulty Invitational.  It was a tough meet for the Lions but Hunter Parmerlee was strong at the end of the night, setting a personal best in the elite 3200 event in 10:44 according to coach Amy Tush. Carter Barnes and Liam Gurley also set personal bests in the discus at 124’8” and 117’6”.

Lawler was the highlight for both teams, winning the shot put competition and placing 6th in discus. Other personal bests were set by Corn in the 3200 at 13:47 and Melaney Mahan in the 1600 meter at 6:23.

Rushville track and field hosted North and South Decatur at John Wilson Stadium Monday. It was cancelled two times this season, but the third time was well worth the wait as Rushville came up with two team victories. Final team scores for the Lady Lions were RCHS 85, North 42 and South 37. For the Lions, team scores were RCHS 72.5, South 61 and North 32.5.
