Lady Lions 4th at sectional, Westphal moves on

Rushville senior Bell Westphal is headed for the IHSAA gymnastics regional after a 3rd-place finish in the all-around competition at the Connersville Sectional Saturday.

Westphal was runner-up on vault, landing a season-best 9.0. She added 3rd on uneven bars (8.375), 7th on floor exercise (season high 8.75) and 8th on the balance beam (8.175) for a total of 34.3. Ainsley Bodwell of Connersville had a tad higher score to take 2nd behind winner Lynzie Stiller of team champion New Palestine. The Lions were 4th as a team, scoring 94.175 to 3rd-place New Castle (96.225). New Pal totaled 100.575 and the hosts advanced with 100.525.

Senior Sophia Dora also competed in all-around, scoring 31.15 for 13th place. She placed 8th on floor (8.7), 17th on vault (8.475), 20th on bars (6.925) and 22nd on beam (career-best 7.05). Classmate Gabby Pavey was 31st on bars (4.475), 18th on beam (7.2) and 21st on floor with a career routine of 7.725. 

Karma Wilson had a career mark on vault (8.1) to place 27th, adding 30th on floor (7.45). Emme Tracy also had a career-best score on vault (7.8) for 35th while getting 33rd on beam (5.425) and 27th on bars (5.7).

Audrey Harper and Rachael Ruf of Franklin County also advanced in multiple events. Franklin Central is the regional host Friday, starting 6:30 p.m. at the Indiana Gymnastics Company in Indianapolis.
