C. Jack Clarkson

C. Jack Clarkson passed away peacefully into heaven January 10th at his home in Rushville. Jack was born December 18, 1930 at home in Rushville. He was born when the workman’s whistle blew. Jack would often say he’s been working ever since. Jack was welcomed by the late Harold and Dorothy (Whitaker) Clarkson and big sister, Mary Carolyn. He grew up in Rushville. He graduated from Rushville High School, Butler University with a bachelor’s degree and Indiana University School of Law awarded the Order of the Coif in 1958. Jack was elected Prosecutor of Rush County after filing his declaration of candidate for the Republican nomination in the Secretary of State office in Indianapolis. He was the youngest prosecutor elected in Indiana, and tried cases while still in law school. 

In 1991, Jack and Linda Jane Hinchman Moster blissfully married at the Meadows Ranch in Choteau, Montana, Linda’s college roommate’s family ranch on June 25th and October 6th in All Saints Fulham Church in Linda?s ancestral church in London, England. 

Jack was a man who loved the Lord and read his Bible every day, taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church. Throughout his life, received many awards, three Sagamore’s of the Wabash by three different Indiana Governors. He also received a Kentucky Colonel from Louis B. Nunn, Governor, Commonwealth of Kentucky. These are the highest awards to a private citizen. He was also President of Masons, Shriner’s, and Rotary. Jack served as chairman of the Rush County Republicans for 20 years, and also was elected State Delegate. 

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Carolyn Clarkson Kinder, great-grandson, James Tanner Clarkson and first wife, Jacqueline Kiplinger. 

In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his daughters, Jeanie Clarkson (John) Hahn, Ann (Charlie) Clarkson Bowman and son, Mike (Kris) Clarkson; step-daughters, Julie Jane (Bill) Moster Pappas and Jenni-Lynn Moster Gilbert. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Christopher (Christy) Hahn, Elizabeth Jean (Michael) Cassidy, Whitney Bowman, Daniel (Emma) Bowman, Heather (Rich) Grimmie, Jon Paul Clarkson, Cara (Joe) Moran, Taylor Gilbert, Stacey (Hans) Weber, Angie Bowman, Chas (Andrea) Bowman, Nikki (Brad) Hartwell great-grandchildren, Jacob Hahn, John Cassidy, Shelby Elizabeth Hahn, Lily Grace Cassidy, Norah Daisy and Natalie Rose Bowman, Kreigh (Rachel) Springman, Adam Grimmie, Lane (Eva) Palmer; Abe and Jonah Weber, Ella, Addy, Lydia, Jack Bowman, Koryna Augh; Sofia , Bentlee and Karoline Hartwell; great-great-grandchildren, Jackson Palmer, Peyton Sorell, Jocelyn Morris-Alexander; niece, Mary Jayne (Brad) Apple and nephews, Mark (Reba) Kinder and David (Ruth) Kinder. 

Services will be held Friday, January 17, 2025 at 1 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 1431 US-52, Rushville, IN 46173, with Pastor Cody Hensley and Walter Wickey presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
