The Union County Lady Patriots dropped the first set to Knightstown last week, but came back to win three straight sets to seal a 3-1 Tri-Eastern Conference match on the road.

“I think the girls were excited about it being their first match and had a little nerves they had to work through,” UC coach Allison Kassens said. “We work on that kind of setting in practice, so it isn’t completely new to them.”

The Lady Patriots tied the score at 13-13 and stayed close but failed to go ahead. Knightstown won 25-23.

In the second set, there was no question that UC had reversed the course. Shelby Hill led off with a string of seven service points to get things rolling. UC went on to win the second set, 25-10.

“Shelby was on fire. She is quick to pick up on who the weak is and puts her serves there,” Kassens said. “She handled the ball real well setting tonight too. She is just an all-around neat player.”

In the third set, all six Lady Patriots came through at the service line. Not only came through but five of six scored aces – eight aces in all. Final score was another 25-10 win for Union County.

The fourth match was even more impressive. UC won 25-9 with six aces and front row kills from Hanna Vaughn, Hailey Tidwell, Autumn Cantrell, and Elyse Peters.

Following a trip to National Trail this week, Union County hosts TEC opponent Union City on Thursday, Aug. 25 (tonight). Then on Saturday they play at Park Tudor in Indianapolis.
