On Tuesday, Aug. 23, and Wednesday, Aug. 24, Main Street Brookville hosted the Main Street America Transformation Strategies Workshop. Main Street America visited in order to aid in the discussion, debate, and development of transformation strategies for Brookville's Historic Downtown district.

Main Street America is a revered movement that helps revitalize older and historic commercial districts. For 35 years, Main Street America has been the voice for both preservation-based economic development and community revitalization across the country. This organization also represents a broad diversity of small towns, mid-size communities, and urban commercial districts; all of which make the country unique. With networking and partnership, Main Street America is devoted to bringing a new sense of life into the place we call home.

Established in 2003, Main Street Brookville, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) with the mission to revitalize Brookville Historic downtown. They are an Indiana Accredited Main Street (OCRA) and Main Street America (national) affiliate organization.

The workshop was hosted in the Brookville Public Library with 50 participants. These include business owners, property owners, and both government and various Franklin County organizations. Randy Lyness (Representative District 68) and John Moton (Regional Director, Office of US Senator Mike Braun) also attended the workshop.

Prior to the workshop, Experience Franklin County sent out a survey developed by Main Street America and over 500 people responded. Joi Austin (Main Street America) was amazed.

She stated, "This is the highest per capita response Main Street America has ever received to date."

The workshop was a significant event regarding the revitalization of Historic Downtown Brookville and concluded as a blinding success with new plans to better solidify the upcoming changes to our town. The Main Street Brookville Board of Directors will participate in another workshop in September to prioritize the implementation of the recommended strategies.
