Two Arrested on Methamphetamine-Related Charges

On Friday, Dec. 2, at about 7:45 a.m., Franklin County Sheriff's Deputies, along with the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team, served a search warrant at a residence in the 25,000 block of U.S. 52 near Laurel. Deputies applied for and received a search warrant in an attempt to locate a fugitive.
While searching for the fugitive, deputies discovered evidence of suspected methamphetamine possession. As a result, deputies applied for and received a second search warrant to investigate the possible drug possession.
As a result of their investigation, deputies arrested the homeowners, Jeremy R. and Casey J. Wells of Laurel. The Wells’ were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Franklin County Security Center.
Jeremy, age 39, and Casey, age 32, were both charged with Possession of Methamphetamine as a level 4 felony. Both were released after posting a bond of $4,005 each and are awaiting their initial court appearance. If convicted of a level 4 felony, Jeremy and Casey each face up to 12 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department emphasized that the Wells' preliminary charges are only for booking and bail purposes.
Once the investigation is completed, deputies will forward their investigation to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of what formal charges will be filed in the case. Charges are merely an accusation, and all criminal suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
