West Harrison flour mill gets national exposure
December 7, 2022 at 3:41 p.m.
A West Harrison business was featured on national television earlier this week.
Siemer Milling Company appeared on the FOX Business Channel show 'How America Works with Mike Rowe' on Monday night.
The facility is located on Brookville Road and can easily be seen while driving on Interstate 74. Siemer is headquarted in Illinois; however, the show focused primarily on the West Harrison location.
"Mike Rowe contacted our corporate office and wanted to do a show about the milling industry and they decided to come here," said Siemer Milling associate Chad Wilson.
Siemer Milling is a family-owned and employee-owned company that has been in business since 1882.
Their primary product is wheat flour milled to different specifications for the making of such foods as cookies, crackers, cakes, pretzels, batters and breadings, bread and biscuits.
The hour-long episode focused solely on the company, its employees and wheat suppliers.
Wilson says it was nerve-wracking being on camera and representing the company, but overall was a good experience.
"There were a lot of things behind the scenes that were eye-opening and the way they handled themselves was very professional," Wilson said.
"During the process, they put GoPro cameras on me and the camera operators always want the best shots, so sometimes I had to do things twice."
The West Harrison facility opened in 2015 and produces 500 tons of flour per day. Most of the flour is made from regionally grown soft red winter wheat.
