Fugitive Steven Lakes apprehended in Texas

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, fugitive Steven T. Lakes, 46, of Connersville, was arrested in Texas on several felony warrants.
Charges include:
POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE
POSSESSION OF PARAPHERNALIA
THEFT WHERE VALUE OF PROPERTY IS BETWEEN $750 & $50K
AUTO THEFT
DEALING IN METHAMPHETAMINE/DELIVERY OF METHAMPHETAMINE
ESCAPE
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA
Lakes’ whereabouts have been unknown since Nov. 8, when Lakes was arrested in Liberty by the Union County Sheriff's Department on his outstanding warrants. However, Lakes was able to gain control of the Union County Sheriff's vehicle and flee the scene. After being pursued through several counties, Lakes was able to evade police.
On Nov. 9 the Indiana State Police reported the sheriff's vehicle was found in Shelbyville. However Lakes was not found, and the investigation was turned over to the Union County Sheriff's Department.
Lakes is being held in the Collin County Jail in Texas awaiting extradition back to Indiana to face the multiple felony charges.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department reported deputies had been working with the U.S. Marshal's office, as well as local law enforcement after receiving information that the fugitive fled to Texas.
If convicted of a level 3 felony, Lakes could face up to 16 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Charges are merely an accusation and all criminal suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. out of Indiana.
