The Franklin County Wildcats' hot start to the season ended Saturday night when they traveled to take on the Greensburg Pirates. The Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference matchup brought the 5-0 Wildcats to town while the Bucs were looking to stop a two-game skid after losses to Jennings County and Triton Central. Greensburg (2-2) took advantage of an early first quarter run and never looked back, cruising to a 31-point win. FC is now 5-1 and 2-1 in EIAC games.

The first quarter went the way of the Pirates; after going up 4-2, Greensburg went on an 11-0 run and finished the period up 18-5. The Bucs started the second frame on a 5-0 run after a Jack McKinsey three-pointer and another basket by Ki Dyer. The Cats added 10 points in the quarter, led by Tanner Weartz with four. FC was down by 13 points until Abe Tebbe hit a three-point shot for GCHS to close the half with the Pirates up 31-15.

The Wildcats made the first two shots out of the break with Jace Lee and Brant Ertel hitting for FC. The next five minutes went Greensburg's way, outscoring the Cats 24-9 over the remainder of the period. Dyer scored nine of those points, and McKinsey dropped 11 on FC in the frame. The Bucs led 55-28 after three quarters.

The final period only netted FC eight more points while the Pirates added 12 to their tally to earn their first EIAC victory with a 67-36 win.

FC's holiday tournament is Thursday. The Wildcats open with Seton Catholic, 10:30 a.m. Hamilton Heights and Triton Cent. do battle afterward.
