Francis Flaspohler
December 28, 2022 at 1:57 p.m.
Francis H. Flaspohler, 89 years old of Batesville, IN, died at the VA Cincinnati Hospital on December 6, 2022 following a brief illness. Francis was born to Frank and Rose (Ronnebaum) Flaspohler on January 7, 1933.
After serving his draft duty in the Army, where he was stationed in Germany, Francis married Dorothy Hartman on November 12, 1955 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, IN. He was a lifelong farmer, retired from Batesville Casket company after 40 years of service, and was a retired county township advisory board member. Francis started his own neighborhood watch with frequent outings on his golf cart throughout the warmer days.
Always eager to catch up with his neighbors and family, visiting was the best part of the job. During the summer, he enjoyed checking the gardens and fields and shared whatever extras he could so no crops were wasted. In the fall, he spent hours cracking hickory nuts and giving those to anyone who stopped. Francis thoroughly enjoyed his Sunday naps which turned into daily naps as he aged. He and Dorothy led by example with their unconditional love. They cherished one another through 67 years of marriage, battling through life challenges with family, farming as it happened, and always praying in Thanksgiving for the many blessings and graces that were bestowed upon them.
He will deeply be missed by his wife, Dorothy, and children, Theresa of Indianapolis, Kathy (Andy) Hertel of Batesville, Francis J (Jody) of Batesville, Jean (Tony) Bischoff of St Leon, Sharon (Jack) Fisk of Brookville, Ron (April) of Batesville, Nick (Kathleen) of Weisenburg, Joe (Teresa) of Westport, Richard of Batesville, Robert of Batesville, Rose (Randy) Obermeyer of Batesville, and Mary (Greg) Ellison of Hilton Head; sister Edith Aulbach of Elizabethtown Kentucky; and 34 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, with four more being added to his flock this winter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose Flaspohler son Gerald (Jerry), grandson Justin Flaspohler, and sisters Betty Hountz and Jennette Eckstein.
Visitation for Francis was held on Saturday, December 10, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Mass of Christian Burial began at 11:00am and burial immediately followed at St Mary's of the Rock Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Mary's Preservation Society or Holy Family Capital Improvement. Memorials will be taken at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home at 25615 State Rt. 1, Guilford, IN 47022.
