The Indiana High School Athletic Association last month announced sectional teams in six sports based on reclassifications from enrollment changes and other factors. These are good through the 2023-24 academic year.

Many brackets will look very similar, but some area schools will see new locations and new potential foes.

Basketball (girls and boys) remains about the same. The Class 3A 29 tournament is still an all-Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference gauntlet; Batesville, Connersville, Franklin County, Greensburg, Lawrenceburg, Rushville and South Dearborn make up the field. In Class 2A 41, Union County vies with Shenandoah, Northeastern, Knightstown and Hagerstown while North Decatur is with Switzerland County, South Ripley, Milan and Hauser. Class A 60 contains Oldenburg Academy, South Decatur, Edinburgh, Morristown, Jac-Cen-Del, Southwestern Shelby and Waldron.

In volleyball, Sect. 29 is identical to that of hoops. Same for Sect. 41 and Sect. 60. North Decatur will contest alongside Switzerland Co., Southwestern Hanover, S. Ripley, Milan and Hauser.

Boys and girls soccer will see different lineups in a few cases. In Class 2A, the Batesville girls come back from Indianapolis to join more local rivals – Franklin Co., Greensburg, Lawrenceburg, Madison and S. Dearborn. Rushville's girls, along with Connersville, will have a more Indy feel as they join Christel House Academy, Beech Grove, Herron and Indpls. Shortridge.

On the boys side, Batesville, Franklin Co., Greensburg, Lawrenceburg, Madison, Rushville and S. Dearborn are together, as are Oldenburg, Union Co., Wapahani, Seton Catholic, Morristown and Knightstown. The Twisters had traveled to SW Shelbyville for several years.

OA's girls compete with Rising Sun, Milan, South Ripley, SW Hanover and Switzerland Co. Union Co.'s Lady Patriots are lumped in with Wapahani, Triton Central, Muncie Burris, Morristown and Knightstown.

The Class 3A local football landscape changes heavily. Still together are Batesville, Franklin Co., Greensburg, Lawrenceburg and Rushville, but new foes include Indian Creek and the reclassified South Dearborn Knights (down from 4A) and Centerville Bulldogs (up from 2A).

In Class 2A, Union Co. vies with Winchester, Shenandoah, Northeastern, Lapel, Indianapolis Ritter, Heritage Christian and Eastern Hancock. The Decaturs and OA are in the same Class A sectional field with Tri, Cambridge City Lincoln, Edinburgh, Knightstown and Milan, though the Twisters are on football hiatus – due to lack of athletes – at least for the 2022 campaign.
