Summer heating up at Brook Hill
July 12, 2022 at 7:53 p.m.
Activity is soaring at the Town of Brookville's Brook Hill Golf Club over these summer months of 2022.
The Coach Joe Codiano Classic was held this past Saturday, just days after a well-attended Independence Day Horse Race event taking place on Monday, July 4 (see accompanying photos).
A horse race, aka shootout, involves a form of match play where all players start on the first hole but the golfer with the highest score (tiebreak rules in case of tie) on Hole 1 is eliminated and so forth across 18 holes until just one golfer remains.
Events from the month of June included the annual Brookville Volunteer Fire Department outing on June 4, the Franklin County High School golf team outing on June 11 and the Mary and Maury Schott Memorial tournament held June 25. The Franklin County Junior golf league also held its annual camp last month.
The remaining Saturdays of July are booked solid as the American Legion Post #77 graces the course on July 16, followed by a pair of summer golf traditions.
The 16th Annual Remember Olivia Rebecca Waggoner charitable golf tourney is July 23. Same-day registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Ahead of time, teams can register at Brook Hill, via email at [email protected] or call 513-515-6343. Entry fees are $80 per person, which includes green fees, cart and chicken dinner afterward. There are cash prizes, closest to pin award, longest drive award and other skills opportunities. Families may come for the dinner, providing a good will donation.
The Franklin County 12th Man Club will take their swings – 5th Annual - July 30 to benefit FCHS football. There will be giveaways, contests, cash prizes and a raffle. Start time is at 8 a.m. Pre-registration for teams can be found via a link on Franklin County's 12th Man Club Facebook page. As of the end of June, sponsorships were still available for the event; visit the Facebook page for a link.
Girls high school golf will tour the course often in August and September as the 2022-23 sports year gets underway around the area. Closing out August – and essentially summer - there are a couple special outings planned.
The annual Jonathan Tinch Memorial & V.F.W. 4-person golf scramble is set for Aug. 20. Many contests will take place that day and dinner will be served. One week later, it's the North Dearborn Conservation Club teeing off.
