July 26, 2022 at 8:41 p.m.
The Franklin County Wildcats braved the heat this past Friday when they hosted the Jennings County Panthers in a pre-season scrimmage. Coach Wes Gillman is now in his fifth season as head coach of the Cats, with a record of 19-20.
The scrimmage game saw the first and second teams get reps in live action. Highlighting the offense was a dual back approach with seniors Brady Morehead and Peyton McCreary both grinding out positive yards. The offense was led by sophomore Quinn Gillman, who displayed improved arm strength with several deep throws.
The defense played well against the Panthers' pass game, breaking up several passes. They allowed a few first downs to the Jennings County runners on their possession but shut down the middle of the field on the next round.
The Cats will begin the 2022 season on Aug. 19, when they host the New Castle Trojans in a non-conference matchup. FC won a shootout to start last season in New Castle with a 44-34 victory.
