Teen with terminal cancer has a big wish, Christmas plans

BROOKVILLE -- Franklin County senior Kayla Spangler is graduating from high school this week. She is also celebrating Christmas on Saturday.
That is because of her terminal cancer and the grim diagnosis that she may only have weeks to live.
"Hospice came over the other day and said she is definitely declining and I said I can tell," said her mother, Linzy Spangler. "I asked them how much longer do they think she has, and they said they don't expect her to last a month."
Kayla is now bedridden and when you walk into her room, you'll find a Christmas tree decorated for Halloween.
"I love all the holidays but especially Christmas, that is a big day for me," Kayla said.
There is a fear Kayla might not be here on Dec. 25 so her family and friends are making sure she can celebrate her favorite holiday.
They will host Christmas this Saturday and her house will be full of decorations, lights, Christmas carolers and even Santa.
If you want to give a gift or a card to Kayla, you can drop that off at Franklin County High School this week or next week.
"If we have to go the whole month of November and people want to trickle in, we're welcoming anyone who wants to give a gift or just say hello," Linzy said.
There is another initiative underway that is being kept secret from Kayla. A family friend from Maryland has organized a social media campaign for the 17-year-old to get a message from her idol, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
It has been shared on social media thousands of times and has reached people that are connected to the Hollywood actor.
"I think if he can pull through, I honestly believe she would be at peace," Linzy said.
"Even if it is just a video, not even a video chat, as long as he says her name and some conjunction of whatever, it would literally mean the world to her."
Time will tell if the message reaches The Rock but the family is keeping their hopes alive.
Spangler will take part in a special graduation ceremony on Wednesday at the high school.
