2022 Mid-term Election Results
November 9, 2022 at 4:18 p.m.
The 2022 midterm races glided toward the finish line Tuesday as voters turned out for a handful of federal, state and local decisions.
Getting the most play locally – judging by yard signs and advertisements – were the horse race for Franklin County Community School Corporation at-large trustees, a contested battle for FC Council District 4 and a push by Brookville Town Council to increase its count from five to seven members.
The public question officially read: “Shall the number of Town Council members for the Town of Brookville, Indiana, be increased from five (5) to seven (7)?”
Voters overwhelmingly chose the “no” button as more than three of four town residents were against expansion.
Terry Bryant and Beth Foster were school board incumbents among the group of nine vying to be seated on FCCSC. Foster was reelected, but Bryant ended in fourth behind newcomers and winners Kevin Kaiser and Brandy Wilson. Others running were Adrienne Greene, Joel Biltz, Scott McDonough, Sean Berns and Mary Keck.
Lifetime residents Bob Evans and Joe Gillespie went head-to-head for the council seat in Dist. 4 that includes Brookville Township, the latter being the incumbent.
The winner was Evans, who completes an all-Republican council come the new year.
Many township trustee spots saw just single candidates, but this wasn't the case in Laurel, Posey or Brookville. Laurel Twp. had not two, but three, residents interested in the position. Republican Tonja French defeated Bradley Spurlock and Charles Gerrian. In Brookville, it was Republican Irv Vonderheide triumphing over Kit Flaspohler. Your Posey Twp. Trustee is Republican Tim Hollars, claiming victory over India Lynn Burris.
Several other local offices saw unopposed candidates punching their tickets. See next week's edition for full results.
Republican Lindsay Patterson was unopposed for Indiana House District 55. For state senate Dist. 27, Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) was aiming to hold onto his seat against Democrat challenger Dr. Ronald Itnyre. Raatz had nearly 75% of the vote late into the evening. Other state races included treasurer, auditor and secretary of state.
Trying to either stay in Washington, D.C. or get there were seven main candidates – four for the recently redrawn 9th Congressional District and three for US Senator. Republican Sen. Todd Young was declared the winner (IndyStar.com) over Democrat Thomas McDermott at press time while Republican Erin Houchin also was in command in the House race over Democrat Matt Fyfe, Tonya Millis (Libertarian) and Jacob Bailey (Write-In).
