Irma G. “Gale” Smith, age 72, of Richmond died Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Reid Health.
Born January 17, 1950, in Lee County, Kentucky, to Cloyde and Odie Reece Vickers, Gale lived in this area most of her life. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, home decorating, but her greatest joys came from spending time with her family and her dogs.
Survivors include her sons, Darren (Cheryl) Elgin and Jason Smith, both of Richmond; grandchildren, Steve Hall, Shane Hall, Samantha Elgin, William Elgin, and Jordan Smith; great-grandchildren, Elija Elgin, Briella Elgin, and Mason Elgin; sister, Billie (Steve) Harrison of Centerville, Indiana; brother, Dean Vickers of Centerville; life-long friend, Ann Bentley of Indianapolis; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Odie Reece Reimer; father, Cloyde Vickers; stepfather, William Reimer; grandparents, Lucian and Jane Reece; great-grandson, Jesse Elgin; siblings, Bobbie Vickers, Lowell Vickers, and Barbara Edwards; sister-in-law, Laura Vickers; and the love of her life and husband, McClellan “Smitty” Smith.
Visitation for Irma G. “Gale” Smith was from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Abington Christian Church, 6775 Abington Pike, Centerville, Indiana. Funeral service followed at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Abington Christian Church, 6775 Abington Pike, Centerville, Indiana with Rev. Bud Parrish officiating. Burial was in Abington Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
