Union County updates Travel Advisory Warnings

Director Jim Franklin of Union County Emergency Management would like to announce the updated travel status with new terminology and their meanings to better road safety. Previously, these statuses were listed as 1, 2, and 3. The new terminology will now align with more detailed travel advisories and was approved by the commissioner's board.

First is Travel Advisory - Yellow. This has no restrictions, but caution is advised when driving. Motorists are asked to exercise extra caution when driving, but otherwise, may drive at their discretion.

Next is Travel Watch - Orange. This advisory is for essential travel permitted. Examples are commuting to and from school, traveling to safe places for shelter, you need to obtain emergency medical care, you need to obtain medications, and you need to acquire essential supplies, food, or fuel.

Lastly is Travel Warning - Red. This means that travel is prohibited. If motorists are at a great risk of injury or death, then the commissioners may declare this warning. Most of the roadway network will either be closed or impassable, or they are unsafe due to weather conditions.

Country roadways are (considered) closed to non-emergency vehicles, and the public is prohibited from driving here.

During travel warnings, fines may be imposed.
