Whitewater Canal Trail Wins 2022 Project of the Year Award

By Cheyenne Lance-

It's always exciting to add new events, hot spots, activities, and more here in Franklin County, and now, a new award has just been presented.
Tri-State Trails has awarded the 2022 Project of the Year award to the Whitewater Canal Trail!

When speaking to one of the awardees, Tony, he states that he previously did service work and drove around Franklin County often. Along the railroads, he happened to notice the thick shrubbery and overgrown grass and thought it would make a great trail.

They found Tri-State Trails about five years ago, who is a non-profit, and molded right in to help create better trails and an outdoor experience. These trails expand the canal corridor below Laurel to Metamora and are close to reaching Brookville as well. To date, there has been extensive progress made to the Whitewater Canal Trail.

This trail can be hiked, walked, run, and allows bicycles as well. The awardee stated that he has always loved building trails and was incredibly glad he had the chance to help with Whitewater Canal.

There are continuous updates on the Whitewater Canal Trail Facebook page, but for the best experience, go on out and check out this gorgeous trail in person.
