After split, FC Lady Cats are 5-2

Franklin County's Lady Wildcats were road warriors over the weekend, traveling to neighboring Union County Friday night and boarding the bus Saturday night for Shelbyville. Results were a 30-25 low-scoring win over the Lady Patriots, followed by a 50-31 loss to the still unbeaten Class 4A Lady Golden Bears.
The Lady Wildcats faced the Union County Lady Patriots in a north/south county rivalry on Friday night. The one-win Union County squad took an early lead and went up 7-6 with one minute to go in the first period. Franklin County sophomore point guard Tiffany Billman then put up five unanswered points to put her team up 11-7 after one frame.
She added five more in the second frame as the Lady Cats went into halftime up 20-13.
The Lady Patriots scored the only four points in the third quarter with Shelby Hill and Brooke Fields each hitting a basket. The score through three frames was Franklin County 20, Union County 17.
The Lady Cats started the final period on a 6-0 run to go up by 10. UC battled back, adding eight points in the frame. Franklin County held on for the five-point victory.
Billman led all scorers in the contest with 15 points; also scoring for FC, Kiersten Schell 6, Josie Rolfes 3, Nicole Mears, Kassidy Schell, and Bailey Kaiser all finished with two points.
The Lady Wildcats had a tough matchup Saturday evening when they faced the Shelbyville Lady Golden Bears. Shelbyville is averaging 61.5 points per game this season while allowing an average of 34.2 points allowed as they improved to 7-0 after beating Franklin County by 19 points. The Lady Cats held with Shelbyville's offense for the first frame, ending it tied 6-6. Shelbyville then pulled away going up 24-10 at the half, then going up 41-24 after the third quarter. The final frame saw FC score seven points and Shelbyville put up nine to end the game.
The Wildcats (5-2) will look to win their first Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference game of the year Nov. 23 as Lawrenceburg (2-1) pays a visit to FC's gym. The ladies then have a 10-day break between contests halted by a Dec. 3 matinee with Morristown.
