Phil Snodgress inducted in 61st HOF Class

NEW CASTLE - Basketball is passion, and that passion continues to be shown throughout the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. That passion continues as the board of directors of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame announces their 61st induction class, to be honored in ceremonies on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
The late Phil Snodgress of Kennard High School was a three-sport athlete (basketball, baseball, and track), while graduating in 1954. After graduation from Kennard, Snodgress played baseball for four years at Ball State earning a bachelor’s and master's in education. After Ball State, Snodgress went on to coach at Blue River Valley, Liberty, and Union County, before a 22-year stint in Greensburg. Snodgress had a career record of 350-221 while earning accolades such as: 1974 IBCA Coach of The Year, 1999 Virgil Sweet Service Award, and inducted in 2008 into the Union County Athletic Hall of Fame. Overall, Snodgress had 11 sectional and 1 regional title. After he retired, he was asked to coach an 8th grade team, and did so until 2005.
Other inductees include: James Blackmon Sr. (Marion, University of Kentucky); Richard Butt Huntington High School; the late Henry Chapman (Ft. Wayne North Side, Harlem Globetrotters); the late John DeVoe (an original owner of the Indiana Pacers); the late Henry Ebershoff (Lafayette Central Catholic); Brian Evans (Terre Haute South, Coach Bob Knight's Hoosiers); Oscar Evans (Shortridge High School, one of the first underclassmen to play varsity basketball); Darrin Fitzgerald (Indianapolis Washington); the late Ken Gunning (Shelbyville, coach at Connersville); Jack Hogan (“Broad Ripple's Pocket Rocket”); Kirk Manns (North Judson); Eric Montross (Lawrence North, North Carolina, NBA); Drake Morris (East Chicago); the late Jim Oler (Economy); Brad Stevens (Zionsville, Butler and Boston Celtics coach/executive).
