Economic Revitalization Connector Position Opens

By Cheyenne Lance-

Main Street Brookville, to meet the goals of increasing attractiveness of Main Street, moving forward and building off the PreservINg Main Street Pilot Program, and the $2M Facade Grant, has recently established a new position: ERC.

ERC is the Economic Revitalization Connector, and the primary responsibilities include providing current and new businesses with information and assistance in filling storefronts. The new businesses, and the expanded businesses, will serve the community by increasing their economic activity to stabilize and build the town's quality (and vitality) of life.

Gage Pace is currently in the active role of ERC. Pace, a graduate of Indiana University's O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has the educational training and experience for the job, and is employed with One Dearborn (an economic growth organization serving Dearborn County). As of right now, Pace is serving as a contracted interim developer helping to lay the infrastructure for the ERC position, along with responsibilities. Main Street Brookville is actively searching for a candidate to fill the role while Pace sets up the foundation.

"This multi-faceted position is a resource for the town that provides the necessary steps and value for the town to work together," Pace states.

The ERC will be responsible for compiling and maintaining a database of all available commercial buildings/sites on and off Main Street and identifying ownership, and current usage, square footage, or acreage or infrastructure available for servicing of the locations. They will reach out to current businesses and find new businesses/entrepreneurs available to enter the market and serve our needs. The ERC will also work closely with the Indiana Small Business Development Corporation (ISBDC), an entity of resources to identify businesses who are looking to establish locally, and resources to aid existing businesses. These are also provided to new businesses to help Main Street and the surrounding areas of homes.

The ERC will act as a liaison for Main Street to help connect, coordinate, and stimulate the sharing of information among the town, county, and region. Increasing flow of information and planning will make it quick and easy for businesses to see opportunities grow. In addition, the restoration provides a particular aesthetic that attracts entrepreneurs, thanks to the PreservINg Main Street project.
