It has been a roller coaster as the community continues to follow Richmond Police Department (RPD) Officer Seara Burton's progress after being shot during a traffic stop. On Wednesday, Aug. 31, the community was devastated to hear the news RPD Chief Michael Britt shared on the RPD Facebook page:

"Despite the very best efforts of all the doctors and nurses at Miami Valley Hospital, Officer Seara Burton's injuries have been determined to be unrecoverable. Tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 1, Seara will be taken off of life support.

Seara will live on and continue to be a hero with her selfless gift of organ donation. Officer Burton will continue to serve others long after her passing. Final arrangements for Officer Burton will be released in the coming days.

Seara's family wanted to include the community in sharing this information. The incredible outpouring of support has been truly heartwarming. We ask that you please respect their privacy during this time."

On Thursday, Seara was on her way to surgery for the donation of her organs when she started breathing on her own. On Friday, another statement was released from Britt:

"Officer Seara Burton's condition did not change much overnight, and she is still with us this morning. She still remains off of life support. We are closely monitoring the situation, and we will provide updates to the public as the situation progresses. Seara continues to remind us just how strong she is. Official updates will continue to be released by the Chief's Office as changes occur."

Then on Saturday, Britt released the following information:

“Officer Seara Burton has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton to a hospice facility in the Richmond area today. She will continue receiving excellent care and be surrounded by her family. The family is grateful for all of the community support but does request privacy at this time. Please be respectful of the family's wishes while they spend this precious time with Seara."

At the time of print, no other updates on Burton or her condition were available.
