A Union County senior and sophomore led UC cross country teams at last week’s Union City Invitational.

Senior Marissa Young placed 18th in the girls race, Johanna Nelson was 21st, and Ryan Story 58th in the field of 63 high school entries. 

First place Centerville had 33, Blue River Valley 66, and Rushville girls 91.  Randolph Southern 93, New Haven 104 and Cowan 133 finished out the team scores.

Crossing the finish line first in the boys race was sophomore Charlee Gibson of Blue River Valley.

Three Union County boys were among 78 runners who ran in the high school boys  race. Sophomore Landon Klingman’s time (25:02) was good for 67th  place, Wyatt Pearson was the 69th runner (25:30) and Jack Hodgkin came in 70th in 25:46.

Rushville won the boys race with a 49-point team total. Cowan came in second with 52 points, Blue River Valley third with 56, and Centerville’s 107 stood in fourth place. New Haven, Lincoln and Anderson Prep Academy scored 122, 135 and 198, respectively.

New Haven senior Andrew Amos was the individual winner of the boys race in 17:22.

The UCHS Patriot runners will be on the course at the Randolph Southern Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 10 and host the UC Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 13.
