Margaret “Sue” Alcorn
April 5, 2023 at 6:27 p.m.
Margaret “Sue” Alcorn of Liberty went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2023 at the age of 81.
Sue was born in Boone, North Carolina on May 18th, 1941 to the late Lloyd and Lucy Millsaps Eggers. Sue lived in Union County for the past 52 years. Always greeting people with a smile, Sue worked at Creagar's Five and Dime on Union Street, until it closed. Being the people person she was, Sue went on to work at Pizza King in Liberty for 30 years before retirement in 2019. Sue had the kindest heart and was always willing to help people.
Bingo was a cherished activity that Sue relished as her “dauber” always seemed to bring her luck. Throughout her years, Sue loved to paint and loved to cook and bake. She was famous for her sugar cream pie. Sue was an avid bowler who enjoyed the camaraderie on the lanes. For years, she enjoyed traveling to the Women's National bowling tournament. In her younger days, when springtime rolled around, the bread sacks would be gathered up and you could find Sue in the woods hunting for mushrooms with her family. During the summers, she loved her annual motorcycle trips with good friends across the US and Canada.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, five sisters, a son-in-law, Lowell Redd, and two grandchildren, Dylan and Daniele Hill. Left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her daughter, Pam Redd of Liberty, son, Jeff (Debbie) Anderson of Auburn, Calif., grandchildren, Derek (Crystal) Hill of Liberty, Ryan Anderson of Honolulu, Shane Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla., and great granddaughter, Brynlee Hill of Liberty. She also leaves behind a brother, Alfred Eggers of Sugar Grove, NC, sister, Mary Nell (Gary) Shufford of Hickory, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
Sue was loved by many and was known by all the kids as “Grandma Sue.” A better person will never be found.
A visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N Main, Liberty. Respecting Sue's wishes, cremation was chosen.
