Quilt Show preparations are underway

By Cheyenne Lance-

Recently, the committee members for the upcoming Quilt Show held in May met up to discuss new updates, changes, additions, retractions, and requirements. After roll call was finished, the previous meeting minutes were approved.

A judge has been found for this year's challenge quilts and those receiving various awards for display, design, and size. A Facebook update will be available soon, and an announcement has been made that any applications can be taken to the extension club.

There are also some changes with time frames for demonstrations, which will be finalized soon. Lastly, the committee discussed the usage of a larger ad for networking and advertising of the Quilt Show.

Dottie Roleson states there are no new updates with the treasury report. They have received donations and she is working on getting a placement with WRBI Radio. She also mentions that road signs for the Quilt Show will go out in April. Her final update is the date for the 2024 Quilt Show.

This will be held May 17-18 of 2024.

The challenge for this year is Panel Play. This means that any quilted item (except clothing) using a full panel must be built on, altered, or expanded. This includes adding borders.

Photos of the original panel must be provided with submission.

The quilting should be three layers:
1) Pieced Top
2) Batting
3) Backing

The finished piece must be machine or hand quilted.

The committee next moved on with updates over the challenge quilt for 2024. These are Amish quilts and they must adhere to the design requirements. Amish quilts have a dark back (such as black), and  cannot use the colors yellow, orange, or white.

Pastels are allowed to be used as long as the three colors listed above are excluded.

These are the only updates as of now for the Quilt Show. If you wish to volunteer with setup and dismantling, please contact the committee.

Applications can be picked up at the Extension office, or at Whitewater Publications.
