Day Trip Destination in The 765: Model T Museum in Richmond

The Model T Museum in Richmond attracts visitors worldwide with interests in cars, history and memorable experiences. Recently the museum acquired two new automobiles that tell deep stories from automotive history, a 1914 Ford Model T delivery truck and a 1926 Ford Model T Tudor Sedan.

"We want to make sure that our community here in Richmond is up-to-date with our latest news and happenings," said Micaela Knox, associate museum director. "We are always improving the museum experience for East Central Indiana because most of our repeat visitors are from the surrounding communities."

The delivery truck is on loan by Michael Copperthite. The truck was operated by the Connecticut-Copperthite Pie Company in Washington, D.C., and was exhibited in several parades and national events throughout the early- and mid-20th century. According to Copperthite, the vehicle now serves as an "ambassador of goodwill" for the company. The truck will be on exhibit at the Model T Museum until February 2024.

The 1926 Tudor Sedan was donated by Jim and Rita Koerber. The Ford Motor Company created the car during the Model T's last full year of production. Jim Koerber had it restored to excellent condition in 2011. In addition, Koerber exhibited the car in auto competitions, such as the Keenland Concours d'Elegance. The car is now part of the Museum Collection and on display.

"These vehicles are excellent additions to the museum's exhibit spaces," said Micaela Knox, associate museum director. "The pie truck tells a unique personal story about how a business had to adapt to a modernizing world. The '26 Tudor is a pristine example of the car an everyday person could buy brand new nearly 100 years ago."

The Model T Museum is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the Ford Model T. It is renowned for its in-depth collection of early 20th-century Ford artifacts. The museum campus is located in the Historic Depot District of Richmond and contains two buildings, several immersive gallery spaces and over 40 vehicles. Summer season visitor hours are Wed.-Sun. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, call (765) 488-0026 or visit mtfca.com/museum. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students and veterans.
