The Franklin County Wildcats won both games of a doubleheader over Union County on Saturday. In the first game the Cats put up seven runs in the third inning and won 11-1 with senior Max Dickey going the distance. In the second game FC put up five runs in the second inning and went on to win the game 10-5, moving to 4-2 on the season.

In game one Dickey had three strikeouts and allowed five hits while he picked up his first win on the season. Mason Stewart was on the mound for the Patriots and FC roasted him for nine hits and 11 runs in 2.2 innings.

Dickey gave up a single to Devyn Shepherd, then another to Logan Boone to start the game. Dickey then had two walks with the second plating Shepherd to put UC up 1-0. Dickey worked himself out of the jam, striking out the next two batters. The Cats moved runners around in the bottom of the first to retake the lead 2-0. Xander Rodriguez picked up an RBI on a sacrifice that scored Chase Burton and Brant Ertel scored on an error.

The Cats put up two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. This time a Burton sacrifice scored Landon Johnson and Ertel hit an RBI double to put FC up 4-1. Dickey retired the Pats in order in the top of the third inning, then the bats went to work. Trevor Moizuk started the frame off with a double and Ben Becker singled; sophomore Braylon Kruthaupt singled home Moizuk and an Eli Butt double scored two runs. Burton knocked in Butt, Ertel singled to score Burton, and Rodriquez cleared the bases with a homer to put FC up 11-1. Eric Burdine entered to pitch for UC and forced a groundout to end the inning.

Burdine held FC scoreless in the bottom of the fourth frame, but Dickey finished off UC with a groundout and two flyouts to end the game with a 10-run win for the Cats. Ertel went three for three at the plate, scoring two runs, and knocking in two runs. Rodriguez had three RBIs, Butt had two RBIs and scored two runs. Burton scored twice and five other Cats scored a run in the contest. Kruthaupt and Johnson each got a steal in the win.

The Patriots scored the first run in the 1 pm game when a first inning Stewart double scored Boone to put UC up 1-0. The Cats tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning when Ertel picked up an RBI scoring Butt. Avery Harrison was on the hill for the Cats, and he held UC scoreless over the next three frames while FC increased their lead.

Becker got on base in the bottom of the second inning and Kruthaupt knocked him in with a single. Senior Adam Barrett then singled to score Kruthaupt, then three straight singles by Burton, Ertel, and Rodriguez plated two more runs for the Cats and they led 6-1 after two innings. A Butt single in the bottom of the third scored Johnson and FC was up 7-1 until the top of the fifth inning when the Patriots got a double from Gavin Davis that scored Mathew Wooley and Boone followed that with a double knocking in Davis.

Burton came in to pitch for the Cats and Coleton Wicker doubled, scoring Boone and Josh Klein. UC had cut the lead to two, and with two outs Burton sent Brady Woeste back to the dugout looking at a called third strike. The Cats led 7-5 until the bottom of the sixth when Ethan Brewer knocked in Ertel for FC. Becker picked up an RBI, and Brewer scored a few pitches later on an error by the UC catcher. The three-run inning put the Cats up 10-5.

Burton finished off UC with two strikeouts and got Klein to ground out, giving FC a five-run win.
