Softballers suffer first defeats, now 11-4

Connersville scored the first six runs Monday, enough to hold off comeback thoughts by Franklin County's previously unbeaten (in conference) softball squad. Final was 7-4. CHS now sits alone atop EIAC standings.
The Spartans got a 3-run bomb in the top of the fifth. Sophomores Annie Hoff and Bailey Kaiser each had two hits for FC (RBI each). Kensee Ferman added an RBI double. Josie Rolfes gave up 13 hits in the loss.
In an EIAC game April 19, FC won in thrilling fashion over South Dearborn, posting two runs in the bottom of six to win 4-2. Rolfes provided the fireworks with a 2-run shot to center before getting SD in order to close the complete game (65 pitches). Rolfes, Brooke Stang and Kiersten Schell (2B) each had two hits. Kassidy Schell made a nice diving catch in left. Hoff added a double.
The first loss of the year came the next day at Milan. The Indians scored the walkoff run in the bottom of the ninth. Hoff had multiple hits (2B, RBI). Ki. Schell belted a two-bagger. Bella Lee and Kendal Cain threw for FC.
A trip to the Kokomo Classic over the weekend produced a 1-2 mark. FC was shut out by South Bend St. Joe's 11-0; SB scored all runs in the first three frames. Ace Bailey Zache shut down the Cats' offense, allowing just two hits (Ferman double). FC committed three errors. Rolfes and Jillian Harris were in the circle.
In a wild one with Westfield, FC took a 19-14 loss. The Shamrocks scored eight in the bottom of six. Hoff had four hits (2 2B) while Stang and Ferman added three each. FC defense erred five times. Ferman drove in two, Rolfes three, Ka. Schell three and Stang had two steals. Lee, Cain and Harris pitched.
In a laugher against SB Riley, FC won 29-11 on 24 hits. Stang, Ki. Schell and Kaiser each homered. Rolfes had five RBI, Stang, Kaiser and Maci Lake drove in four each and Ki. Schell sent three home. Rolfes and Lee served up pitches.
FC (11-4, 4-1) is at Rushville Thursday.
