Metamora’s Columbia Street rocked on Saturday

Metamora's Columbia Street Music District was in full swing on Saturday, Aug. 5, as musicians took multiple stages and live music filled the air. The Columbia Music District resulted from a vision Metamora residents Catrina “Cat” Campbell and her husband, Tom Sherrard, had two years ago when they wanted to help the town of Metamora through experience-based activities by utilizing property they owned along Columbia Street.
“We have those buildings upfront when you enter Metamora that we felt needed to be fixed up and brightened up and better represent Metamora,” Campbell explained. "So, since music is what we do, we thought we could utilize the front part of town for some nice indoor/outdoor events that people can bring their families to you and draw more attention to town."
Campbell explained that after coming up with the idea for the music district, they had to figure out how to make the vision come to fruition.
"Leroy Ellington, a big promoter in Cincinnati, offered to partner with us, along with Third Place, for the first year," Campbell said. "It was just what the doctor ordered. It helped us learn how to book bands and put on a festival. We were very thankful for those partnerships to give us the impetus to get it started.
Now, this year, we are on our own, just as we had planned, and making small changes every year to make it a better experience for people and streamline the process."
Saturday was the second music fest of the season and featured a fantastic lineup of local musicians, including Cat Campbell and the $2 Pistols, Jamie Rowe, Frank Black and Friends, Lotta B.S. and the Make-Believe Spurs (formerly the Wallens).
The next music festival at the Columbia Street Music District will be on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 4 - 9 p.m. Five musicians/bands will perform on four different stages. Cat Campbell and the $2 Pistols will be opening, followed by Doug Hart, the Johnny and Gina duo, John Basler, and My Brother's Keeper.
“People can expect family, friendly, high-quality music in a beautiful, historical setting," Cat shared. "There will be food for sale, but not alcohol. However, outside coolers are welcome!"
