The Rushville boys soccer team traveled to Centerville on Thursday night to face the Bulldogs in their first match of the season. The Lions lost 8-0.
Centerville started off quickly, attacking the young Lions' defensive line. The Bulldogs scored three minutes into the game and continued their offensive attack throughout the first half. Rushville put together a few positive offensive possessions in the first half that led to Nathan Dora getting good shots but were unable to find the back of the net. At half the score was 7-0.
The second half saw Centerville keep up their offensive pressure and score one more time for a final score of 8-0.
Coach Eric Wagner said after the game: “We started three freshmen on our defensive line today who went up against two very talented Centerville seniors. They played well but made little mistakes that we will work on throughout the season. Our team continued to fight hard in the second half, and we were able to hold possession more in the second half once the first game nerves settled for our young team.”
Noah Lee recorded 4 saves.
The Lions were home Thursday against Batesville, losing 9-0. The Bulldogs had a strong first half, scoring three goals making it 3-0 at halftime.
The second half saw Batesville continue to control the ball in the midfield. The Bulldogs' attack led to six more goals in the second half for a final score of 9-0.
The Lions fought hard throughout the game and started to possess the ball in the second half but could not avoid a shutout. Controlling the ball and limiting shots on goal are two things Rushville will continue to work on this season, said the coach. Connor Hodson and Nick Durand played well in the defensive positions.
The Lions are at Muncie Central Thursday.
