Helen A. Fields, 90, of Liberty died Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Forrest Park Health Campus in Richmond.
Helen was born to Elbert S. and Bessie M. Palmer on October 22, 1932 in Brownsville. She attended Brownsville School. Helen married Fred Ray Sr., on September 23, 1950. She furthered her education receiving a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1956. She was an exceptional nurse for many years prior to her retirement. Helen was a faithful parishioner and proudly sang in the choir at Edwards Memorial Methodist Church. While in the choir, Helen met George A. Fields and they were married on June 23, 2012. Together they shared nine years prior to his passing on February 20, 2021. She was a former member of the Richmond VFW as well as the American Legion Post 77 in Brookville. Helen enjoyed gardening, singing for the Lord, and spending time with her church friends and family. She will be dearly missed by all who know and love her.
Helen is survived by her children and their spouses: Brenda Abernathy and Terry, Fred Ray Jr., and Laura; step-children: Yvette Holeman Laughlin and David, Tammy Fields Bowling and Tony, Terry Fields and Pam; grandchildren: Anya Pinkerton and Kevin, Stacey Schlichter and Fred, Scott Ray and Angela, Lora Cruse and Troy, Caleb Samuel Ray; great-grandchildren: Tyler Pinkerton and Abby, Taylor Pinkerton, Chase, Brooke, and Dylan Bruns, Kaytlyn Richards and Jackson, Kylie Ray; great-great-grandchildren: Cooper Pinkerton and one on the way; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband George, Helen is preceded in death by the father of her children: Fred Ray Sr.; son: Michael Ray; grandson: Seth Tobias Ray.
A funeral service was conducted at 1:00p.m., on Monday, August 21, 2023 at Showalter Blackwell Long, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Friends visited at the funeral home, until the time of service. Burial followed at West Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Memorial Methodist Church in Helen's honor.
