Anna Ross Hamill

Anna Ross Hamill, 98, a longtime Rushville resident, passed away August 21, 2023 in Columbus. Ann was born January 11, 1925 in Allen County, to Val and Rose (Magsam) Laker. She was a 1944 graduate of Monroeville High School. She married Gene Ross on March 28, 1946 and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1980. Ann later married Wilmer "Joe" Hamill on March 12, 1983 and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2005.

She spent her early life in Allen County, several years in Shelby County and moved to Rush County in 1950. She worked for P.N. Hirsch in retail for 20 years.

Ann was a longtime member of the Plum Creek Christian Church where she taught Sunday school many years. She enjoyed being a part of the Gingham Gals group for over 50 years and she was active in the Red Hat Society. Ann volunteered with the Rush County Community Assistance program. She enjoyed watching IU basketball, the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers and working in her garden!

She will be missed by her children, Jean Ann Brown of Brown County, Sue Ross of Maynardville, Tennessee and Phillip (Emily) Ross of Tallahassee, Fla. , a step son, Robert Hamill of Adair, Oklahoma, her sisters, Eleanor Lengrich and Myrna "Joey" Fravel both of Decatur, her grandchildren, Tony (Sol) Ross, Heather (Kevin) Robinson and Mandi Ross, several step-grand and step-great-grandchildren also survive. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Rose Rosswurm Laker, her husbands, a son, Randy Ross, a step-son, Edward Hamill, three sisters and a brother.

Services for Ann were held at 1 PM Saturday, August 26th, 2023 in Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Rev. Rebecca Merriman Gibbons presiding. Friends visited the family from Noon on Saturday until service time. Burial was in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County Community Assistance program.
