Winnie Halcomb Wyatt

Winnie Wyatt, 98, a lifelong resident of Metamora, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at home. Winnie's legacy is brimming with love, service, and unwavering faith.
She was born June 8, 1925 on Duck Creek Road in Metamora, to Emerson and Nellie Mainous Halcomb.
On March 2, 1946, she married her sweetheart, Homer Guy Wyatt in Knightstown. Mr. Wyatt passed away May 6, 1986. Winnie remained at their homeplace after his passing for 38 years, with her doors wide open for family and friends.
Winnie worked in the Laurel School cafeteria for 30 years. She found much joy serving the children at Laurel, food was love to Winnie. She also worked for eight years at Jay Garment and Brookville One Stop Deli for two years, where she earned the name “Wonder Woman”; finally retiring at the age of 86.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Metamora for over 70 years. During that time, she served in the church kitchen and at VBS. She was also awarded "Mother of the Year" in 1984. Winnie loved her church and church family; she always supported the work of love and faith.
An excellent cook and baker, Winnie was known for her yeast cinnamon rolls and chocolate pies which always brought a high bid for the church's mission fund. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her family and herself. She even crafted dolls, home decor, and upholstering. She made quilts for her daughters and blankets for many of the babies, and a wedding dress for her granddaughter.
Winnie contributed her long life to not drinking or smoking, home cooking, and living for Jesus.
Survivors include five children, Barbara Lorrene (Cary) Lakes of Connersville, Sharon Sue (Joe) Studt of Brookville, Jeannie Rae Wyatt (Preston Boone) of Lakeland, Florida, Joy Beth (Richard) Bishop of Brookville, and Tammy Jolene (Bob) Evans of Brookville; an abundance of much loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters Myrtle Diewert of Greensburg and Lorrene Peters of Laurel, and many loved relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Wyatt, who passed in 1986; a son, Larry Wyatt, who passed in 2000; her twin brother, Wilbur Halcomb who passed away in 1925; brothers, Charlie, Carl, Walker, Ernest and Bobby Halcomb; and sisters, Cassie Ledbetter, Dora Sloan, Mabel Halcomb, Mattie Corn, and Verna Mae Lessing.
Friends visited Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Bible Baptist Church in Metamora. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at the church. Reverend Ron McCullough officiated. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville Indiana.
Her family will cherish the memories of 'Winnie's Cake' that she hand made for each of her children and grandchildren's birthdays over the years. She loved them all and she was so loved. If you were hungry, she fed you; if you needed clothing, she clothed you and if you needed a bed, you had one. -Our Mother, Little Winnie
