Last Tuesday night the Wildcats' varsity girls basketball team played in their last conference game of the season at South Dearborn to take on the Lady Knights. FC won 43-35.
“EIAC games are always tough and are always tough to win on the road,” said coach Kyle VanMeter. “Some nights the ball does not want to go in the basket, and you still must find ways to win. We are proud of our team for finding the way to win.”
The Wildcats came out to the Knights firing and were down 7-0 early; the visitors started to find their groove and finished the quarter on a 17-5 run to go up 17-12. In the second frame the Lady Cats outscored their opponent 10-4. They took a 27-16 lead into halftime.
“At halftime the team talked about how we felt good being up 11 while missing every free throw we shot and shooting a poor percentage,” the coach added. The third quarter was a tight one with each team scoring 7 and the last frame belonged to the home team outscoring the Lady Cats 12-9.
Senior Kassidy Schell finished with 17 points and Nicole Mears had 11.
FC finished 4-3 in the EIAC and 7-4 on the road. The win guaranteed a winning season -the first in 5 seasons and the most wins in 6 years.
