Thursday night was forgettable in almost every way for the Franklin County Wildcats, the boys suffering a 63-32 home loss to Campbell County, Kentucky and seeing a losing streak reach six games.

The Cats struggled mightily on offense, senior Tanner Weartz's corner three being the first shot to roll in with 2.3 seconds left in the opening quarter.

The score was 34-9 at halftime and 51-18 after three; sophomore Landon Johnson's buzzer-beating triple closed out the frame as a running clock was already in effect for the remainder of the contest. FC did manage 14 points in mop-up time, senior Brant Ertel (19.7 ppg) finally getting in the scorebook with 5:18 to go.

Taking care of the ball was also an adventure; the Camels came away with numerous steals on the night and were gifted a few of those. One of the turnovers led to a 5-0 Campbell lead early. By the 3:25 mark, it was 11-0 following an out-of-bounds save and toss to Jake Gross for three. The lead grew to 15 after a Connor Weinel score and steal and score for Jaidan Combs.

The humpbacks opened the second stanza on another 10-0 run with four different players scoring. Mixed in were a couple more FC turnovers. A backdoor lob to Aydan Hamilton made it a 25-3 game with 4:45 left in the half. A feed to Combs had CC up 27-5 midway through the period.

Senior Brady Morehead then scored on a putback, followed quickly by two Camel answers; coach Mark Foster called time with the score 31-7. Keegan Hill hit from three, with Weartz's response coming on a reverse layup.

The score ran to 38-9 early in the second half. It was 42-10 when Morehead laid one in from the baseline. The 35-point margin – triggering the running clock – came at 2:52 of the third. Sophomore Quinn Gillman added a baseline move late in the frame.

In the fourth, Weartz had the first basket ahead of a trey by Gross. A pair of Ertel makes set the score at 58-24. Johnson would hit back-to-back triples late to finish with a team-high 9 points. Weartz had 7, Gillman 5, Ertel and Morehead 4 each, Isaiah Kemp 2 and Eli Butt 1.

Vs. Edinburgh (Feb. 4)
FC's skid grew to seven with Saturday afternoon's 69-59 home loss to Edinburgh. The Cats last lost seven straight between the end of the 2020-21 campaign and start of the next season.

The Lancers have consistently been among the top Class A teams in the state over the last few years. They improved to 12-5 with a 26-point effort by Caleb Dewey. 

FC had a nice day on offense. Three players got over the double-digit plateau for FC – Gillman led with 14, Weartz added 13 and Butt a dozen. Xander Rodriguez got into the action with 5; Ertel, Morehead and Johnson had 4 each and Blake Stephenson posted 3.

Jackson Hartwell added 11 and Jarrett Turner and Conner Ramey 10 apiece for the guests.

FC (8-10) has a double weekend coming up, hosting Greenfield-Central Friday on Senior Night and traveling to Victory College Prep on the southeast side of Indianapolis Saturday night.
