By Cheyenne Lance-

We wanted to announce the winners of the American Legion 4th Grade Flag Education program in Franklin County.  Although the Indiana American Legion has been administering this program since 1996, this is Brookville Post 77's second year participating, and we hope to continue the program for years to come.

The Flag Education Test program was started in the American Legion Department of Indiana in 1996.  By 2004 over 300 elementary schools in the state of Indiana ordered over 18,000 tests and comic books. The Division of Student Activities of the Indiana Secondary School Administrators approves the American Legion Flag Education Test.  The purpose of the program is to teach our youth about the history and importance of the American Flag to include the proper display and treatment.  The test consists of 20 questions and a short essay. Post winners move on to compete at the district level and district winners compete at the state level.  Two state winners receive a $1,000 college scholarship.

Clara from BES and Gunnar from LES had the highest scores in the entire county and were our post winners!

A big thank you to all the 4th Grade teachers who made this program happen! (Ms. Stenger, Ms. Taylor, Ms. Higgenbotham, Ms. Stang, Mr. Fuller, Ms. Bennett, Ms. Renforth, and Ms. Crain). We are so proud of everyone and can't wait to do it again next year!

The participating students and winners from all schools are as follows:

•Clara Lienesch and Adam Lee of BES
•Charlotte Paul and Andrew Wernke of Mt. Carmel
•Aubrey Madden and Gunnar Powers of LES
•Ava Schneider and Edward Tebbe of St. Michael's

Congratulations to our young winners for your excellent work and outstanding achievements in this program!
