Franklin County prepares for the annual Quilt Show

It's that time of year again where Franklin County prepares for the annual Quilt Show! The Quilt Club held a meeting on Feb. 7th at the United Methodist Church to discuss minutes from the previous meeting, get an approval of the flyer and application, and cover any additional needs for the event itself.
First up was the call to order and the secretary's minutes. Following were some updates to cover. This includes any issues involving quilt pick-up. There is a need for at least eight people. Another issue involves the Challenge Quilts. Beth Caudill states that all Challenge Quilts must be dropped off by May 17th between 11am and 3pm at the old Brookville High School gym.
Next, the ladies discussed vendor prices and the permission needed to secure the gym for these two days. As all quilts will be displayed along the gym in various sections, the upper level has space for sewing techniques and concessions. Other sections can be viewing areas for the bed turning exhibit.
Dotti Roleson had bookmarks made, and the club will also be utilizing ribbons and yard signs.
This year's challenge is Panel Play. To qualify, participants must choose any quilted item (except clothing) that uses a full panel. From here, they are asked to build on/alter/expand on the panel including the borders. Once the quilt is completed, a photo of the original piece must be submitted along with the submission piece itself. The quilting should be 3 layers: Layer one is a pieced top, layer two is batting, and layer three is the backing.
Reminder: The finished pieces must be hand or machine quilted. Panels without alterations will not qualify.
Concluding budget costs afterwards, the quilt club sends a reminder that all quilts must be picked up on Saturday, May 20th, between 5pm-5:30pm.
A request has been made for around 10 volunteers to help with setup.
The quilt club will be handing out flyers for use, as well as have them available online at www.extension.purdue.edu/franklin. You can also find applications at Whitewater Publications.
More updates will follow in the next few weeks.
