Karen D. McClain, 79, of Liberty passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Reid Health in Richmond. She was born on April 23, 1943 in Connersville to John C. Reed, and Dorothy Thompson Reed.
On June 24, 1961, Karen married the love of her life Barry R McClain. They were able to spend 61 years together prior to her passing. Together they were blessed with three children.
Karen was described by her family as the most patient person they ever met, so, it makes sense that she was a teacher's aide for the Union County Middle School. She loved working with children. Her favorite area to assist was with the children with special needs. After 18 years Karen had loved, and cared for numerous children and chose to retire. Karen loved children so much, that she and her husband became foster parents, which led to the adoption of one of their children.
Karen enjoyed making baskets for those she loved during her free time. She was the best at baking desserts. Karen was blessed with luck when it came to playing bingo, or at the casino. She took pleasure in relaxing while reading a book. Karen was always on the go and loved shopping. She was also known to love sewing, and even made clothes for some of her children and grandchildren.
Karen's memories will be loved and cherished by her husband Barry; childen, Rebekah Lynn Rowe, Mark (Peace) McClain, and Darin McClain; grandchildren, Brandon McClain, Madison McClain, Anthony McClain, Twila McClain; and great-grandchildren; Alexander McClain, Tanya McClain, and Cora McClain. She will be thought of often by her siblings, Pat Hines, Peggy Turnball, and Raymond Reed.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Linda Finch.
Friends and family may gather at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N Main St., Liberty on Friday, February 17, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.
