The board held meetings on Feb. 6 & 13 with updates and inquiries being addressed following the necessity of a financial overview. There were three main actions discussed within this meeting, along with a guest speaker to help explain how financial settings have been within the past six years. This presentation allowed the board to understand where they were sitting with their overall accounts to ensure the best for their schools.

Covered first was an approval for budget appropriations. This was to make sure the board didn't end the year in any negative appropriation zones. The appropriations were approved following a presentation of funding, spending, and how the budgets each month per year affected the overall accounts.
Up next was the approval of the Property/Liability insurance premium. This discussion provided five companies who were invited to give quotes. Three of the five companies gave quotes. After comparison and discussion, the board went with EMC and IPEP for a total premium of $180,787. This amount is an increase of just over $30,000 from the previous year. According to superintendent Tammy Chavis, the driving factor for this decision was mainly based on replacement costs.

Following was the bus contract. The board made some amendments and reverted the fuel escalator/de-escalator back to the previous contract. This was approved and carried by all members.

The board next approved policies, as well as introduced the educators of the month for January and February.

Starting with January, the Educator of the Month was awarded to Beth Kaiser. Beth is the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Franklin County Middle School and has been teaching for 34 years. She was nominated by a student for her work, dedication, and passion in her classroom.

January's Support Staff of the Month was awarded to Angie Westerfeld. Angie currently serves as the Cafeteria Manager at Franklin County Middle School and has been with FC schools since 1988.

For February, the Educator of the Month was awarded to Shirley Fehl, a Reading Interventionist at Laurel Elementary School. She was nominated by a parent and has been a wonderful member of the FCCSC for 38 years.

February's Support Staff of the Month was awarded to Kim Sizemore. Kim works as a custodian for FCHS and has for many years. When asked by Keith Isaacs what her favorite part of the job was, Kim states "The kids. I enjoy the kids the most. They're a hoot. They all think I'm funny, but I think they're hilarious."

Congratulations to the educators of these past two months for all they have done for the schools and the students!
The meeting was adjourned after.
