Special auction item to benefit Sisters of St. Francis

If you would like to own a little piece of Oldenburg history, while helping out the Sisters of Saint Francis at the same time, take a peek at an item offered by Wyeth Auctions house of Newark, Ohio.

They are currently in possession of a classic stained-glass window (see photos) that originally hung in the former St. Cecilia Hall on the campus of the Immaculate Conception Academy. According to auctioneer David Wyeth, convent archives have confirmed that the window was made by a Dan Nobbe, Sr. for the building constructed in 1873 but nowhere to be seen today as it was razed in 1968.

As of Tuesday morning, the vintage item had a high bid of $1,750 at bid.wyethauctions.com/ui/auctions/94953/10530570.

Once the bidding closes on Feb. 24, 4 p.m., the Sisters can expect to receive 10% of the proceeds from the final sale. Terms state that if there is a bid placed in the final minute, auction will continue for another minute.

Winner of the item should definitely be prepared to gather a “crew”–and large vehicle - for transporting the haul. The window and its wooden frame total 44 ¾ inches width by 128 ¼ in. length/height; the glass itself has dimensions of 36 ¾ by 120. (A small repair needs to be made to the window.) Additionally, the weight of the entire piece is approximately 400 pounds. The crate containing the glass window was opened for the first time in over 50 years.

Additional terms have the winning bidder paying a 15% buyer’ premium, with credit card fees of 4%. If the amount exceeds $2,000, only certified cashier’ checks or wire transfers will be accepted. The website makes clear that all items are sold “s is”and all sales are final.

To preview the item on-site before next Friday, bidders must make a preview appointment. Newark is located 40 miles east of Columbus.

For more information, visit wyethauctions.com or contact Mr. Wyeth at [email protected] or 740-403-6661.
